The
The front of the banknote depicts the monument to Peter the Great and sailing ship in the port of Arkhangelsk.
On the back of the banknote there is Solovetsky monastery.
Predominant colours of the banknote are violet and blue.
The emblem of the Bank of Russia is made with optically-variable ink (OVI).
The banknote possesses several machine-readable security features.
On the front of the note there are two serial numbers that consist of two letters indicating the series followed by seven digits.

Multitone watermark
The paper has local
watermarks on the left and right coupon fields. In the wide coupon field there
is a fragment of the monument to Peter the Great and in the narrow coupon field
there is a numeric value of the denomination (value numeral 500). When the
banknote is held up to the light you can see various parts of the watermarks,
some of which are lighter while others are darker than the surrounding
paper.

Security thread
The paper contains a
vertical narrow polymer security thread 1 mm in width. It becomes visible when
the banknote is held up to the light. The thread bears a recurrent, direct and
reverse inscription „ЦБР 500”, printed in black.

with great accuracy so that irregular elements of the design on both sides of
the banknote join up to form a complete picture when the banknote is viewed
against
the light.

Micropattern
On the reverse side
of the banknote there are images consisting of fine lines that look like an even
background for a naked eye. Copying these images causes their possible

the banknote there is a positive microtext in the form of seventeen lines of
repeated value numeral „500”. At the bottom of the banknote there is a negative
microtext in the form of eight stripes with a repeated text „ЦБР500”.

Security features checked by tilting a banknote
Optically variable ink (OVI)
The emblem of the
Bank of Russia is printed with OVI ink. When the banknote is tilted, the emblem
changes colour from reddish orange to yellowish green.
Metallic ink
It is ink with a
metallic silvery sheen. The characteristic metallic luster of the ink used in
this part of the banknote cannot be reproduced by рhotocopying.
Latent image of the letters „РР”
(kipp-effect)
When a
banknote is viewed at an acute angle, letters „РР” become visible on the decorative
stripe. The letters become either light on a dark background or dark on a light
background depending on the orientation of the banknote.
