Perm was awarded the honorary title City of Labour Valour for the great contribution of its residents to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, uninterrupted manufacture of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises and people’s labour heroism and commitment.

Around 100,000 Perm residents worked in the rear. They continuously manufactured military and civilian products.

Perm made and sent to the front more than 13 million mortar shells, around 3 million propellant charges for the Katyusha multiple rocket launcher, over 10 million pairs of knee-high boots and helmets and 650,000 telephone sets. Every third artillery shell was equipped with an artillery fuse manufactured in Perm. All military planes built during the war were provided with fuel injection equipment made in Perm. Two-thirds of all propellant charges manufactured by Russian powder enterprises during the war were made in Perm.

During the Great Patriotic War, nine enterprises were awarded 11 orders and six enterprises received Red Banners for perpetual storage.

During the Great Patriotic War, Perm hosted a significant number of enterprises and cultural and educational institutions evacuated from Leningrad.
