Obverse
the two-headed eagle (designed by I.Bilibin), the letters under it indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the mint trademark and the fine metal content. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «50 РУБЛЕЙ 1994 г.» (50 RUBLES 1994), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA).
Reverse
to the left - a portrait of Dmitri Levitsky, under it - a palette with brushes, to the right - a fragment of Levtsky's painting "Nelidova, a Graduate of the Smolny Institute". The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — "РОССИЯ И МИРОВАЯ КУЛЬТУРА" (RUSSIA AND WORLD CULTURE), at the bottom - "Д.Г. ЛЕВИЦКИЙ" (D.G. LEVITSKY).

Dmitri Grigorieyvich Levitsky (1735-April 16 (4), 1822) - a Russian portrait-painter. Among his best known work is a series of portraits of graduates of the Smolny Institute (for noblewomen), which are both solemn and realistic.
