Wrinkled ground beetle (Carabus rugipennis), a rare species of a beetle in the family Carabidae. In Russia, it only inhabits the Kuril Islands – Kunashir, Iturup, Urup, Brat Chirpoyev, and Shikotan. The wrinkled ground beetle is found in mixed and fir forests as well as tall grasses near riverbeds. Habitat destruction is the main reason behind the decrease in this species population.
