100th Anniversary of the Birth of I. V. Kurchatov
Obverse
in the centre - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ДВА РУБЛЯ" (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom - the year of issue "2003", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
to the left - a nuclear reactor control desk, above it - the atomic nucleus scheme, under it - the dates in two lines "1903 - 1960", to the right - a portrait of I. V. Kurchatov. The inscription at the top to the left along the rim: "И.В. КУРЧАТОВ" (I. V. KURCHATOV).

Jgor Vasiliyevich Kurchatov (b. 30.12.1902/12.01.1903 - d. 07.02.1960) - Russian scientist, physicist, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the former USSR (1943), organizer and supervisor of the nuclear science and technology work, founder and first director of the Institute of Nuclear Energy (since 1960 - Kurchatov Institute of Nuclear Energy).
