150th Anniversary of the Birth of S.V.Kovalevskaya
Obverse
The obverse: in the center - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two-headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ДВА РУБЛЯ" (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom - "2000", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
to the left -the portrait of S.V.Kovalevskaya in an oval, to the right - architectural monuments of St. Petersburg and Stockholm, lower - the inscription in two lines: "СOФЬЯ КОВАЛЕВСКАЯ" (SOFIA KOVALEVSKAYA) and the dates "1850" "1891" divided by a horizontal line, at the bottom - a rose, a triangle, a sheet of paper, dividers, an opened book, the planet Saturn.

Sofia Vassilievna Kovalevskaya (b. January 15, 1850 - d. February 10, 1891) - the first Russian woman as corresponding Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1889), a publicist writer. She created works on mathematical analysis, astronomy, mechanic. The works of S.V.Kovalevskaya were awarded with prizes of Paris Academy of Sciences (1888) and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences .
