Obverse

in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «СТО РУБЛЕЙ» (ONE HUNDRED RUBLES), at the bottom — the year of issue «2001», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

in the center — a swimming sailing and rowing vessel, above it — outlines of the north-eastern part of Asia and Alaska, to the left — two foxes holding a crown, a bow and two crossing arrows, to the right — portraits of F. Popov and S. Deshnyov, under them — the date «1648», in the background — a rocky bank, the rising sun. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ОСВОЕНИЕ СИБИРИ XVI·XVII» (THE DEVELOPMENT OF SIBERIA XVI·XVII), at the bottom – «ЭКСПЕДИЦИЯ Ф. ПОПОВА (АЛЕКСЕЕВА) и С. ДEЖНЁВА» (THE F. POPOV’S [ALEXEYEV] AND S. DESHNYOV’S EXPEDITION).

In 1648 the Russian explorer S.I. Deshnyov together with the navigator F.A. Popov (Fedot Alexeyev) doubled the Chukotka Peninsula, discovered a strait between Asia and America.
