Obverse

in the center of the disc - the relief image of cupolas of the Intercession Cathedral on the Moat on the Red Square and Spassky Tower of the Moscow Kremlin, to the left above – the two-headed eagle with wings down, under the cathedral to the right – the mint trade mark, at the bottom in the centre, in three lines – the denomination and year of issue: "3 РУБЛЯ 1992" (3 RUBLES 1992), along the rim – semicircular inscriptions, to the left: "БАНК" (BANK), to the right: "РОССИИ" (OF RUSSIA).

Reverse

in the centre of the disc in the background of starry sky – the relief allegoric image of the Earth in appearance of a lady’s figure flying in the space with arms stretched up, to the right in the background - a Planet, along the rim – the circular inscription: "МЕЖДУНАРОДНЫЙ ГОД КОСМОСА" (INTERNATIONAL SPACE YEAR) divided by an asterisk.

The space age began on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union launched the world first artificial Earth satellite. Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first man to fly into the space on April 12, 1961, and American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were the first men to land on the Moon on June 21, 1969. By 1992 some 4000 spacecrafts have been launched and more than 1,000 manned flights have been made. The United Nations declared 1992 the International Space Year.
