On 29 November 2021, the Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins Yury Nikulin’s Creative Work:

— a 25-ruble silver coin;

— a 25-ruble base metal coin (including with a coloured coating).

Being a renowned Soviet film actor, clown, and director of the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, Yuri Nikulin appeared in more than 40 films. Everybody used to perceive him as a comedian, but Nikulin also had serious dramatic roles, for example, in the films Andrei Rublev directed by Andrei Tarkovsky and Scarecrow by Rolan Bykov. Modern children may not watch a single Soviet film with the participation of the famous actor, but they will definitely come to the circus more than once, where the kindest clown had worked for over 50 years.

Description of the precious metal coin:

The silver 25-ruble coin (fine precious metal content 155.5 g, fineness 925/1,000) has a round shape and is 60.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and the reverse of the coin have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coin features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘25 РУБЛЕЙ’ (25 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2021 г.’ (2021), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the St. Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.

The reverse of the coin (Catalogue No. 5115-0157) features a relief image of Yury Nikulin’s portrait surrounded by the actor’s images laser treated for matte finishing: on the left, from films and TV shows against the background of a stylised film strip; on the right, from a circus play; at the top, a relief image of the logo of Nikulin Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard; at the bottom, a coloured inscription ‘Юрий Никулин’ (Yury Nikulin) and his life years: ‘1921—1997’.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 1.5 thousand pcs.

Description of the base metal coins:

The base metal 25-ruble coins have a round shape and are 27.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The edges of the coins are corrugated.

The obverse of the coins features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription above it along the rim: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with paired diamonds on both sides, on the right there is the Moscow Mint trademark, in the middle under the emblem there is a three-line inscription ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘25 РУБЛЕЙ’ (25 RUBLES), and the year of issue ‘2021 г.’ (2021).

The reverse:

— of the coin (Catalogue No. 5015-0063) bears a relief image of Yury Nikulin’s portrait against the background of the inscription ‘ЦИРК’ (CIRCUS); at the bottom, there is an image of the actor’s signature and life years in two lines: ‘1921’ and ‘1997’;

— of the coin with a coloured coating (Catalogue No. 5015-0064) bears a relief image of Yury Nikulin’s portrait against the background of the coloured inscription ‘ЦИРК’ (CIRCUS); at the bottom, there is an image of the actor’s signature and life years in two lines: ‘1921’ and ‘1997’.

The mintage:

— of 25-ruble coins is 850.0 thousand pcs;

— of 25-ruble coins with a coloured coating is 150.0 thousand pcs.

The new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and are mandatory for acceptance at their face value for all kinds of payments without any restrictions.
