Novosibirsk was awarded the honorary title City of Labour Valour for the great contribution of its residents to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, uninterrupted manufacture of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises and people’s labour heroism and commitment.
Dozens of plants, institutes and cultural organisations were evacuated to Novosibirsk over the war period. Novosibirsk residents spent 1,418 days and nights at the plants manufacturing ammunition, weapons, machinery, and many other items for the front line. They made a great contribution to the Victory of the Soviet people in the bloodiest war in the history of mankind.
Enterprises of the city received high awards from the Soviet government, rolling Red Banners of the State Defence Committee and USSR orders.
