Obverse
in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two-headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ТРИ РУБЛЯ» (THREE RUBLES), at the bottom — «1998», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
the panorama of the architectural monuments of the Nilo Stolo- benskaya Hermitage, to the left over the picture of the monastery — the figure of the Saint Nil Stolobensky, to the right — the date «XVI в.» (XVIth century). The inscription at the top along the rim: «НИЛО-СТОЛОБЕНСКАЯ ПУСТЫНЬ» (THE NILO STOLOBEN- SKAYA HERMITAGE).

The Nilo Stolobenskaya Hermitage is the Men’s Monastery situated on the Stolobny Island of the Seliger Lake. It was founded in 1594. The architectural ensemble of the Monastery comprises the Epiphany Cathedral (1821–1833) with the four-staged bell tower, the Hospital Church of All the Saints with cells (1699–1723), the Saint Nil Gate Church (1751–1755), the Peter and Paul Gate Church (1760–1764) and the Refectory (1669–1781). The relic of the Saint Nil has been lying in the Cathedral.
