Obverse

in the centre - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ДВА РУБЛЯ" (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom - the year of issue "2003", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

a portrait of V.A. Gilyarovsky, lower - the facsimile signature of the writer "ВЛ. ГИЛЯРОВСКИЙ" (VL. GILYAROVSKY), the dates in two lines "1853-1935" and a pen, along the rim - pictures featuring five miniature figures of people and a horse, in the background to the left - some newspaper's pages, to the right - outlines of the old Moscow: the Sukharev Tower and a temple.

Vladimir Alexeyevich Gilyarovsky (b. 26.11./08.12.1853 - d. 01. 10. 1935) - Russian writer, journalist, the author of books and essays describing the pre-Revolutionary Russia, manners and customs of the old Moscow: "The Shantytown People", "Moscow and Muscovites", "A Life on the Move", "People and the Theater", "Newspaper Moscow".
