Rustem Mardanov

Born on 9 May 1964 in Ufa, the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

Education

1986: graduated from the Ufa Aviation Institute named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze.

1989: graduated from the post-graduate programme of the Institute of Economics and Sociology at the Bashkir Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Candidate of Economic Sciences.

Career

1986: Engineer at the department of machine building economics and management of the Ufa Aviation Institute.

1986–1992: Postgraduate student, research fellow at the Institute of Economics of the Bashkir Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

1992–1995: Senior teacher, head of the department of production management of the Bashkir State University.

1995–1998: Various positions from the head of regional economic research sector of the economic research and statistics section at the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan to Deputy Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan — Head of the Economics Division.

1998–2000: First Deputy Minister of Economics and Antimonopoly Policy of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

2000–2001: First Deputy Governor, acting Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

2002–2013: Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

2013–2015: First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

2015–2018: Prime Minister of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

2018–2023: Head of the Ural Main Branch of the Bank of Russia.

Since May 2023: Head of the Bank of Russia Main Branch for the Central Federal District.

Member of the Bank of Russia Board of Directors (appointed on 12 October 2023).

He holds the Order of Friendship, the Order ‘For Merit to the Republic of Bashkortostan’, the Order of Salavat Yulayev, the title of Honoured Economist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, and other official awards.
