Issue of coins made of precious and base metals

On 9 January 2019, the Bank of Russia issues the following coins:

investment coins:

  • a silver uncirculated coin in denomination of 3 rubles and a gold uncirculated coin in denomination of 50 rubles named ‘Saint George the Victorious’;

commemorative coins:

  • a silver proof coin in denomination of 2 rubles ‘Writer V.V. Bianki — 125th Anniversary of his Birth (11.02.1894)’ of the series ‘Outstanding Personalities of Russia’;
  • a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 rubles and a coin of base metals in denomination of 25 rubles of the series ‘75th Anniversary of the Full Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Blockade’.

Description of coins made of precious metals:

An investment silver coin in denomination of 3 rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 999/1,000) and an investment gold coin in denomination of 50 rubles (fine metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999/1,000) have a round shape 39.0 mm and 22.6 mm in diameter respectively.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coins bears a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), ‘50 РУБЛЕЙ’ (50 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2019 г.’ (2019), an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, fineness, trade mark of the mint, and fine metal content.

The reverse of the coins in denomination of 3 rubles (Catalogue Number: 5111-0178) and 50 rubles (Catalogue Number: 5216-0060) named ‘Saint George the Victorious’ features a relief image of Saint George the Victorious on horseback killing a dragon with a spear.

The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The coins are minted in uncirculated quality.

The mintage:

  • the silver coin in denomination of 3 rubles: up to 100.0 thousand pcs;
  • the gold coin in denomination of 50 rubles: up to 300.0 thousand pcs.

Commemorative silver proof coins in denomination of 2 rubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1,000) and 3 rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) have a round shape 33.0 mm and 39.0 mm in diameter respectively.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coins bears a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins ‘2 РУБЛЯ’ (2 RUBLES), ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2019 г.’ (2019), an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, fineness, trade mark of the mint, and fine metal content.

The reverse:

  • the reverse of the coin in denomination of 2 rubles ‘Writer V.V. Bianki — 125th Anniversary of his Birth (11.02.1894)’ (Catalogue Number: 5110-0157) depicts a relief portrait of Vitaly Bianki surrounded by characters of his stories against the background of a forest, laser treated for matte finishing; on the left, the writer’s life years — ‘1894’ and ‘1959’ — are placed in two lines with trees in the background; below along the rim there is an inscription: ‘В. БИАНКИ’ (V. Bianki).

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

  • the reverse of the coin in denomination of 3 rubles ‘75th Anniversary of the Full Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Blockade’ (Catalogue Number: 5111-0398) depicts a relief image of the central part of the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad on the Victory Square with the Saint Isaac’s Cathedral in the background and an image of fireworks dedicated to the end of the siege, laser treated for matte finishing; below along the rim there is an inscription: ‘75-ЛЕТИЕ ПОЛНОГО ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЯ ЛЕНИНГРАДА ОТ ФАШИСТСКОЙ БЛОКАДЫ’ (75th Anniversary of the Full Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Blockade).

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

Description of the coin made of base metals:

The obverse of the coin bears a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription along the rim ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with paired diamonds on both sides; to the right there is the trade mark of the mint; at the bottom there is a three-line inscription under the Coat of Arms: ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin’s denomination ‘25 РУБЛЕЙ’ (25 RUBLES), and the year of issue ‘2019 г.’ (2019).

The reverse of the coin in denomination of 25 rubles ‘75th Anniversary of the Full Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Blockade’ (Catalogue Number: 5015-0028) features a relief image of the Broken Ring Monument with a semicircular inscription: ‘75-ЛЕТИЕ ПОЛНОГО ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЯ ЛЕНИНГРАДА ОТ ФАШИСТСКОЙ БЛОКАДЫ’ (75th Anniversary of the Full Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Blockade).

The mintage of the coin is 5.0 million pcs.

The new coins are a legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
