Price growth slows in most Russian regions in March

News

In March, price growth rates declined in 51 out of 85 Russian regions but remained unchanged or went up month on month in the rest of the regions.

Food prices increased moderately and even dropped in certain regions. The growth rate of fruit and vegetable prices was almost consistent with the seasonal norm. Dairy butter and cheese prices were down in most regions. Concurrently, egg and sugar prices were rising at an accelerated pace.

Non-food prices rose, with a notable increase observed mainly in the segment of excise goods. Prices for many durables edged up.

Services, especially foreign tourism and health resort services, became more expensive. This was largely due to seasonal growth in demand for trips during May holidays. Prices for personal and medical services continued to rise.

Annual inflation was down in 49 regions. The Bank of Russia will pursue monetary policy to ensure consistently low inflation.

More details on inflation in each region are available in information and analytical materials.
