Suspicious transactions go down by 21% in 2024
The amount of suspicious transactions dropped from ₽113 billion to ₽90 billion. This decline was more significant than the decreases in 2022 and 2023 (by 5% and 12%, respectively), as stated in the Bank of Russia's analytical material.
Transactions having signs of money withdrawal abroad were down by 17% to ₽25.6 billion over the year. As previously, they mostly included advance payments for imports without goods being subsequently imported to Russia. The amount of such schemes dropped by a third. However, the share of suspicious transfers to non-residents for the goods that were allegedly purchased from them in Russia without crossing the border was up.
The amount of illegal cash-out transactions declined by 22% to ₽64.2 billion. The amount of such transactions performed using companies’ and individuals’ payment cards fell more significantly – by more than a half.
Banks could effectively counter the laundering of criminally obtained incomes and the financing of terrorism in part because of the development of instruments enabling online control over suspicious transactions and prompt detection of risks on the Know Your Customer Platform.
In October 2024, the Bank of Russia launched a service that allows any user to check whether a company has a high risk level on the Platform. The service has become popular among businesses, which have used it more than 200,000 times since it was launched.
