Websites of rogue motor insurers will become easier to block
The Bank of Russia’s FinCERT has entered into an information exchange agreement with the Russian Association of Motor Insurers (RAMI). This agreement will enable the regulator to more efficiently counter phishing internet resources offering spurious OSAGO e-policies.
The document stipulates that RAMI will submit information about the exposed spurious resources to the Bank of Russia. After which the regulator, bearing the status of a competent authority among the administrators of top and second level domains, will be able to initiate lockup of these websites.
Insurance companies have launched obligatory sales of OSAGO e-policies since 1 January 2017. This novation is designed to make this type of insurance more accessible for car owners. At the same time, since the year start there have been exposures of rogue insurance company websites created by fraudsters to steal money from citizens. The agreement between the Bank of Russia and RAMI will help to more efficiently counter this problem.
