As of 1 January 2020, the share of foreign capital in the aggregate capital of credit institutions holding a banking licence totalled 11.79%; in the aggregate capital of insurance companies, it came in at 10.83%. The Bank of Russia calculates and discloses this indicator on an annual basis in compliance with law.

Foreign investment calculated for the purpose of defining the share in the aggregate authorised capital of credit institutions totalled 340 billion rubles, while their aggregate authorised capital came in at 2.885 trillion rubles.

Foreign investment calculated for the purpose of defining the share in the aggregate authorised capital of insurance companies totalled 23.7 billion rubles, while their aggregate authorised capital came in at 218.9 billion rubles.

In compliance with law, the calculation of foreign capital as of 1 January 2020 factored out foreign investments totalling 51% or more of shares of the authorised capital made after 1 January 2007 if an investor has held these shares for 12 years or longer.

These investments factored in, the share of foreign capital in the aggregate authorised capital of credit institutions would have totalled 11.94%, and in the aggregate authorised capital of insurance companies, 10.86%.
