Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins of precious metals

On October 25, 2018 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues commemorative coins:

• a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Rubles „The Magic of Theatre” (catalogue number 5111-0393, mintage 2,000 pcs);
• a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Rubles of the series „Guarding the Homeland” (catalogue number 5111-0394, mintage 3,000 pcs);
• a silver proof-like coin in denomination of 100 Rubles „Centenary of the All-Russian Church Council of 1917–1918 and the Restoration of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church” (catalogue number 5117-0063, mintage 50 pcs);
• silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Rubles (catalogue number 5111-0395, mintage 3,000 pcs) and 25 Rubles (catalogue number 5115-0147, mintage 1,000 pcs) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Rubles (catalogue number 5216-0117, mintage 1,500 pcs) of the series „The Bicentenary of the Birthday of I.S. Turgenev”.

Silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm) and 25 Rubles (fine metal content 155.5 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 60.0 mm), a silver proof-like coin in denomination of 100 Rubles (fine metal content 1000.0 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 100.0 mm) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Rubles (fine metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999, diameter 22.6 mm) have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coins bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation, the inscriptions „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denominations of the coins „3 РУБЛЯ” (3 RUBLES), „25 РУБЛЕЙ” (25 RUBLES), „50 РУБЛЕЙ” (50 RUBLES), „100 РУБЛЕЙ” (100 RUBLES), the year „2018”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side:

• of the coin „The Magic of Theatre” depicts, on the left, a relief image of Medea Figner, the first performer of the role of Iolanta, in her stage dress and, on the right, a relief image of dancers from the ballet The Nutcracker; the composition includes a complex background composed of mirror-like and matte details: a silhouette of a castle, roses and snowflakes. The inscription at the top reads „Магия Театра” (the Magic of Theatre);

• of the coin of the series „Guarding the Homeland” depicts a relief image of Russian warriors in armour holding arquebuses and a flag bearing an image of Saint George; in the background there are silhouettes of enemy archers on the left and Russian warriors on the right. The inscription at the bottom along the circumference reads „НА СТРАЖЕ ОТЕЧЕСТВА” (GUARDING THE HOMELAND);

• of the coin „Centenary of the All-Russian Church Council of 1917–1918 and the Restoration of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church” depicts a relief portrait of Patriarch Tikhon, with angels above him holding parts of patriarch’s vestments; behind the Patriarch’s portrait there are relief images of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and the Kremlin Dormition Cathedral. The inscription along the circumference reads „100-ЛЕТИЕ ВСЕРОССИЙСКОГО ЦЕРКОВНОГО СОБОРА 1917–1918 ГОДОВ И ВОССТАНОВЛЕНИЯ ПАТРИАРШЕСТВА В РУССКОЙ ПРАВОСЛАВНОЙ ЦЕРКВИ” (CENTENARY OF THE ALL-RUSSIAN CHURCH COUNCIL OF 1917–1918 AND THE RESTORATION OF THE PATRIARCHATE IN THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH);

• of the coin of the series „The Bicentenary of the Birthday of I.S. Turgenev” in denomination of 3 Rubles depicts a relief portrait of I.S. Turgenev surrounded by images associated with his works and, in the foreground, a writer’s utensils: a piece of paper, a candle and a pince-nez. At the bottom are the facsimile signature of the writer and the dates „1818” and „1883”;

• of the coin of the series „The Bicentenary of the Birthday of I.S. Turgenev” in denomination of 25 Rubles depicts relief images of characters and, in the centre, the hero-narrator from the collection of short stories „A Sportsman’s Sketches”. At the bottom are the facsimile signature of the writer and the dates „1818” and „1883”;

• of the coin of the series „The Bicentenary of the Birthday of I.S. Turgenev” in denomination of 50 Rubles depicts a relief portrait of I.S. Turgenev. At the bottom are the facsimile signature of the writer and the dates „1818” and „1883”.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
