On 5 October, Sochi played host to the winners’ award ceremony following the competition involving young specialists’ fintech projects. The competition finals had taken place on the day before as part of Day One of FINOPOLIS-2017, an innovative financial technology forum. The Bank of Russia has held the event since 2015; Fintech Youth Day was organised for the first time this year.

Aspirants were selected in a qualifying round this summer; as many as 300 applications from across Russia entered the competition. 12 teams qualified for the final, which saw them solving problems developed by market players, in two fields: business analytics and programming. The finalists then defended their projects in intellectual battles.

The following teams emerged as the fintech battle winners:

In the Programming nomination:

  • Attraction from Vladimir State University
  • Decentury from Novosibirsk State University;
  • Chernitchina from Moscow State University
  • Arctic Unicorns from the Southern Federal University.

BoR Governor Elvira Nabiullina welcomed the Forum participants and emphasised the importance of the Youth Day. She said that it is through a nonstandard approach to ordinary things that young people break set patterns by innovating across various fields of expertise. ‘It is impossible to imagine new technology development without you, and this is exactly what the financial market needs, she said.

Leading top managers of Russian banks and successful fintech startups spoke at the event. The presentation given by the famous futurist Brett King was of particular interest. According to his projections, intellectual culture will face tight competition in the future; flexibility and adaptability are therefore preconditions for achieving success and understanding one's role in this future.

According to young forum participants, events of this kind enable them to exchange experience as well as offer the opportunity to get a glimpse of the future.
